Can you boat on abraham lake

The strange formations are caused when methane gas is released by decaying tree limbs and other underwater organic matter. The frozen bubbles can be as large as a foot in size and are visible through the glass-like surface of the ice. Even when walking down the slope to the lake, Van Heeren recommends wearing ice cleats to avoid slipping.

I'm going to try some downrigging in this lake in August, maybe up near the dam as it was good last winter. I'm wondering if anybody can tell me the best place to put a small boat in?

It would be nice if some people would mark where they're at least getting a few bites. I'm not saying giving away your honey hole.

Just where I get a few fish. Heading out this weekend, seeking lakers. I hoping to try a small downrigger to fish the depths. Anyone have any luck fishing deep in this lake. I have no idea how deep it is, no depth chart provided?

I've only ice fished this lake but would like to try it this summer. Where is the best place to put a boat in? I assume it is usually a west wind here, how bad is it on the water?

Thanks a lot. Casting off rocks yesterday an nothing. Went down to river looks like great fishing and nothing??? What's the secret I the north sask down here? May last day fishing there was March 26th, I have never fished off the rocks there, only through the ice.

We were north of the open water at the dam intake, about 50' or so from the edge. We had about 18" of ice then, I doubt there is any ice at all there now.

Caught a 15 lb laker that day, best one ever for me. Have better luck catching browns on the other side in the river and they're a lot bigger!!! Any body ever put a boat in here?

Is there a place a little more protected by the wind to put a 12' aluminum in? Was out there last sunday by the dam water is way down and the ice as far as I could see has water all along the shoreline could be run off or melts lot faster cause the heat of the rocks.

Wouldn't walk out on that particular spot. Darren would you care to share the area you were catching off the rocks? Looking to catch my first lake trout then I'm done catching the sport fish of alberta! If anyone is heading out there before Saturday could you please let me know on the ice conditions or if you are fishing off the rocks?

Rod, I've had some lakers there that are a little more silver. They still have the 'worm like' markings on their back a bit and also the tail has much more of a v-notch than a bull trout. Are the lakers more silver in color here?

Caught a couple casting off the rocks not sure if they're bulls or what. Greenish silver in color no black markings on dorsal or tail fin not like any bull or laker I've ever caught. More like a rainbow but they have black markings. Also for a lake with a bait ban sure is a lot of empty minnow containers on the rocks.

I Call BS. I was there exactly one month ago and the only fishing would have been casting off the rocks. I've only been here once.

I just walked down by the dam and fished without a shelter for a couple hrs. Caught lots on blue fox jigging spoon and maribu jigs.

Maybe access to drive out on a quad? Did you go out again on Sunday? I am going to head out one day this week. Heading out tomorrow and Sunday to smash some lakers in this beautiful weather. The biggest that day was 3lbs but early this week a buddy caught a 6lb laker lots of smaller fish around but I have personally seen a 10 , 14 , 16 , and a couple over 20lbs in the past few years.

Kingfisher how thick is the ice? Are you driving on with a quad. If so where you getting on. Went by there today on my way to Jasper only seen one quad on the ice. Was really windy so didn't try it might give er a go tomorrow. Awesome day on the lake great weather and fishing!! Iced and released 45 Lakers between the 2 of us from 8 till 2.

No big guys tho. Was going to go out there today but had to work. Stopped by on the way home yesterday,ice on the shoreline looks pretty scetchy definately need kleats to get down there. There is some open water out there now but as long as you stay back from it theres lots of ice.

The ice does make lots of noise too but as far as depth we were hitting them everywhere and on everything. Thinking about going out on friday any tips on ice safety and what depth the fish are?

Fished from 9 till 2 on monday iced 25 lakers between the 4 of us. Decent day kinda windy tho. Not not personally unfortunately, but a fellow fisherman was out today and landed 15 lake trout in 3 hours biggest was 4lbs. There was no open water 2 weeks ago when we were there. Will be back out this weekend hopefully the fishings better.

Hey kingfisher where abouts does a guy go? Always wanted to try this lake but heard the ice is very unsafe cause the water level always changes. Would be very apreciated if you could give some tips. A couple guys were out there last week said the ice only ranged from inches. Weren't going very far out. Ice fishing may be death sentence.

Water level drops in winter for hydro power generation leaving ice surface suspended over empty space. Walk or drive on that and you could be seriously injured or killed. Fished Abraham July 29, ! Very murky water, only caught one lake trout! Going out there on long weekend. This lake generally gets very good fishing as the fall comes upon us! We had 3 boats on the lake not even a touch Water is really murky probably from heavy rainfall in this area..

Great camping time not so much for fishing! Sturgeon river-north Saskatchewan river joints. Easy acces, clean shore line for casting. Bring food and water nearest place kinda too far.. Ice Report: 2 ft About feet thick still. Was wondering if anybody has fished by the dam lately. Ice looks thin still. Open water near shore at dam.
