What he was suggesting is that you install the standard Netgear firmware first using the above procedure and then install the DGTeam firmware afterwards, using the same procedure. The point about recent versions of the DGTeam firmware is that there have been several comments on the DGTeam forum about problems with recent versions, so it would be safer to install version if you can find it.

Having done this modification, I noticed in August that the Connection Status page on the Netgear web interface didn't show the correct Lease Expires time - it must use the WAN uptime as part of its calculation, so it showed on BE's new network the lease expiry being 59 minutes after the DHCP lease was first obtained i.

This looked to me like the cause of the brief network outage every 30 minutes, and the reports I've received from users confirms that this change does fix that brief network outage. I don't believe BE members have a need for pppoe.
