How long is keke palmers hair

They don't look clean," says Palmer. Palmer says these prejudices, naturally, affected how she viewed and subsequently treated her hair. OK, it's a press. OK, it's a relaxer," she says.

Eventually, so many treatments pushed Palmer's natural hair to the point of serious damage. Because she then realized her natural hair "wasn't getting the love and the care that it deserved," she began her journey of embracing her natural hair texture. And one of her first steps in doing so was incredibly symbolic of a fresh start.

I can have fun, I can straighten my hair sometimes, I can have a wig," she says. As her hair grew back, Palmer took care to really limit the amount of harmful treatments, tools, and products used on her hair.

However, she still makes sure to have fun with her hair using protective styles and wigs, all while ensuring she "spends time" with her natural hair via things like hair masks and oils, scalp massages, really brushing out her hair, and, of course, giving it time to rest. Learning to embrace her natural hair was a huge part of Palmer realizing that "there's only one you" — a piece of advice she wishes she would've really understood a long time ago.

Of course, Palmer is quick to clarify that, for her, balance is important. Yara Shahidi , who regularly wears her hair in natural curls on Grown-ish, recognizes the significance of showing off her curls on primetime TV. And Lupita Nyong'o stood up for her curls after they were photoshopped off of the cover of Italy's Grazia magazine. That said, embracing her natural hair was also a journey for Lupita: Earlier this year, she opened up to Allure about how she was teased as a kid for her kinky curls, and ended up convincing her mom to let her get her hair relaxed.

It wasn't until years and lots of upkeep later that the actress cut it all off and went bald. She has since, of course, rocked all sorts of natural looks, including on the Oscars red carpet. It's not just celebs who are fighting to make natural hair more of a part of the conversation. On Friday, February 26, the Hustlers star divulged her experience with transitioning to natural hair — including where she's at now in her journey — alongside a FlashbackFriday selfie on Instagram.

In the photo, she's sporting no makeup, a beautiful, full Afro , and a silly facial expression because, of course. And as we know all these styles have always been around but they go in and out of being on trend. So back then it was all about weave and interlocking for me. View on Instagram. From there, Palmer explains that she started loving her natural hair way before it became "on-trend" to do so.
