How long alligator hold breath

Fish, turtles, frogs, snakes, birds, and mammals eat them. To some extent, yes, when they begin to compete for the same kinds of foods. Llittle alligators eat little things that big alligators ignore, and so they aren't competing for the same food supply at that time.

Alligators make several sounds. Young alligators make a chirping sound rarely heard in alligators over about 4' long. Larger alligators will hiss when threatened as a warning to leave them alone.

Sexually mature alligators bellow sounds like a chainsaw trying to start. Both males and females can bellow. The males sound more impressive; the female's sound is more like "snorts" because of their usually smaller size. Bellowing is not necessarily related to mating, however. Their tails are strong and powerful, but they are that way for swimming, not fighting. Sometimes an alligator might "hit" something with its tail, but probably it is an accident.

An alligator often turns to the side to bite at something and its tail moves in the same direction to help it keep its balance. So it may be said that if an alligator hits something with its tail, it is because it was trying to bite it with its mouth.

Range: Alligators live throughout much of the Southeastern United States. Crocodiles do not live in Texas. It's too cold. Crocodiles cannot breathe underwater - they breathe air, just like humans. When they are inactive, they can hold their breath underwater for up to two hours before drowning.

They are usually active underwater and can hold their breath for up to 20 minutes to an hour. Crocodiles also rest during long periods of drought. To create a mooring, they dig a trench near the river or lake and sleep for a long time.

Amphibians are animals that can live on land or in water and are characterized by moist glandular skin, gills, and a lack of shells. Examples of reptiles are: alligators, crocodiles, lizards, snakes, turtles and tortoises.

Examples of amphibians are: frogs, amphibians, salamanders and salamanders. And while most laymen would be shocked to see one of the large reptiles on a branch, climbing trees is actually surprisingly common for alligators and crocodiles, according to a study published in the journal Herpetology Notes.

This behavior is known as yawning and occurs when the crocodile list basks. They are also excellent swimmers, and can stay submerged for up to 30 minutes before surfacing for air. Burmese pythons are carnivores, surviving primarily on small mammals and birds. Sperm whales make some of the longest dives achieved by mammals, with some lasting up to 90 minutes, while dolphins and other whales can stay underwater for 20 minutes. The longest time a human has held their breath for under water is 19 minutes — set by a Swiss freediver called Peter Colat.

The actually brummate. That is, they react to a cold environment by slowing their metabolic activity, but certainly not to the deep torpor of true hibernation. Alligators are reptiles and are not warm-blooded.

Growth rates may vary from 2" per year up to 12" per year, depending on the type of habitat in which the alligator is living and the sex, size and age of the alligator. Growth rates slow down as alligators become older.

Male alligators will grow faster and larger than females. Both nocturnal and diurnal, this is called cathemeral. Large males prefer to live solitary lives, but it is very common to find alligators basking in the sun and convening in the water in large groups. Crocodiles sleep with one eye watching. Crocodiles can sleep with one eye open, according to a study from Australia.

In doing so they join a list of animals with this ability, which includes some birds, dolphins and other reptiles. In addition, crocodiles have teeth in the lower jaw that are visible when the mouth is shut.

However, crocodilians can carry out their most strenuous physical exertions by using no oxygen at all — a process called anaerobic respiration. You are going to need to leap up out of the water to get it, using all the power in your oxygen-deprived muscular tail. No time for more oxygen. Do you have the energy to do it? Fortunately, the energy used in this event does not require oxygen if you are a crocodile.

The energy used will be from glycolysis which allows crocodilians to give an all-out burst even when their musculature cells are running on empty. All of these awesome adaptations allow crocodilians to stay submerged for extended amounts of time.
