White Mazda 2 Genki sigpic Di-oxy-hedral-burrito-Dorito watcha-call em doors are the best. You know, the ones on that Koenigsegg thingy. Don't like my taste? Get over it or put up with it. Is it tube an fin or bar and plate. In the end it wont matter much if you just do a light coat of paint. And for the people who say black transfers heat better thats only in relation to sunlight.
In the dark it doesn't matter. My WRX sigpic like the car on Facebook. Basically, the cooler the air enters the cylinder, the more you can pack inside and the bigger the bang gets.
There are some videos out there on the Internet claiming that you can increase the efficiency of an intercooler by painting it black. But is it so? Well, it all has to do with emissivity, which is the rate of radiation that is emitted by a surface or object and people not completely understanding the process. Right, here's my take on it: Unpainted aluminium intercoolers will be more efficient due to there not being an insulating layer of paint on top of the aluminium fins.
Painting the intercooler will just insulate the fins rather than allow them to conduct heat more efficiently. The black aluminium intercoolers aren't usually painted, they'd be anodised in much the same way as heatsinks inside your pc's or any electrical cooling system are.
Anodising doesn't act as an insulator and therefore allows the intercooler to "behave" as if it was unfinished. Anodising is used as a protective finish to make the unit more durable to the elements. Anodised intercoolers are usually used on road cars due to them being in every day use however high performance intecoolers are usually left in bare aluminium due to them not needing the same protection against the elements. Old car radiators were the only cooling parts that were painted due to them being made from pressed steel rather than aluminium and so the paint was there to protect them from oxidisation.
This is what I learned whilst I worked at Ralliart and during my 4 years at university studying Automotive Engineering. But yes, if you lather it on, the insulating effect of a layer of paint will outweigh the superior conductive properties of matt black Whatever you say mate Oh and i think you'll find the reason they painted the blackbird black, was because black looks sofakinkool and they would have had to change the name if it was say..
